Local Growth and Empowerment!

🏈 Houston’s Girls Flag Football Continues to Rise!

Houston’s women athletes are making headlines—and the momentum is nothing short of electric. From pioneering high school teams to growing inclusion in local leagues, girls flag football is quickly becoming a sport to watch.

🌟 Local Growth & Empowerment

This spring, the Houston Texans Girls Flag Football Program expanded across Houston ISD, adding teams at over 80 high schools—including charter schools in Fort Bend, Alief, and more. The excitement has been palpable: Heights High sophomore Emma Syphard earned MVP at the championship game, leading her team to a well-deserved title on the Houston Methodist Training Center field. Her story reflects the spirit we champion at GOTR: girls discovering strength, skill, and community on their own terms.houstonchronicle.com+2click2houston.com+2houstontexans.com+2

✅ Why it Matters to GOTR Greater Houston

  • New opportunities – As flag football gains traction, it brings fresh pathways for girls outside of traditional sports.

  • Skills in action – The sport emphasizes strategy, agility, leadership, and confidence—and shows what’s possible when girls have space to compete.

  • Empowerment on a broader stage – With flag football set for the 2028 Olympics, this growing local scene connects to global progress.

Girls on the Run Greater Houston believes in a future where every girl can choose her field—whether it’s sports, art, science, or leadership. Through our programs and partnerships, we aim to support girls as they explore new experiences, find their voice, and build lifelong confidence.
