At Girls on the Run Greater Houston, we believe that powerful things happen when women and girls come together—especially when we move together. That’s why we’re excited to launch a new monthly initiative created with moms, caregivers, and families in mind: Moms on the Move.
Moms on the Move will take place monthly at Alief Community Park in southwest Houston. This new program is part of our ongoing effort to expand our reach and build deeper connections in the Alief community—one of the most vibrant, diverse, and family-centered neighborhoods in our city.
Why Moms on the Move?
As a busy mom or caregiver, finding time for self-care and meaningful community connections can feel like a challenge. Moms on the Move was born from the simple idea that movement can be a powerful way to build relationships, share resources, and introduce more families to the life-changing work we do at Girls on the Run.
Our walks are intentionally casual, inclusive, and family-friendly. Whether you’re pushing a stroller, walking hand-in-hand with a little one, or just looking to make new friends, you’re welcome here. Each walk will also serve as an opportunity to highlight Girls on the Run programming, including how to get involved, where our programs are offered, and ways families can bring GOTR to their local schools.
What to Expect Each Month
Each Moms on the Move event will include:
-
🏃♀️ A stroller- and kid-friendly walk around Alief Community Park
-
🗣 A short Girls on the Run mission moment to share what we do and why it matters
-
🎨 Stickers for the kids to take home
-
💬 Time to connect with other moms and caregivers in the area
A Commitment to the Alief Community
We chose Alief as the home of this initiative because we see so much potential to grow in this area—and because we know the families here are passionate about youth empowerment, community, and opportunity. Moms on the Move is not just a walking group—it’s a grassroots way to bring Girls on the Run deeper into the neighborhoods we serve, particularly where resources and programming are needed most.
We envision these walks as stepping stones toward something greater: new program sites in local schools, future GOTR 5K participants from the Alief area, and a growing group of volunteers and families who believe in the power of strong girls and active living.
Mark Your Calendars!
Our next walk is Saturday July 12th with August and September dates to be announced on our Instagram and Facebook.
Come as you are. Bring your little ones. And get ready to meet other women in your community who are walking the same path.
Want to help us grow in Alief?
We’re actively looking for local schools to host Girls on the Run programming for the upcoming season. If you’re a parent, teacher, or community leader in Alief, we’d love to talk to you about bringing GOTR to your school.
